How to dispute Illinois Tollway charges? ›

As a customer, you have the right to dispute your charges by filling out a sworn Affidavit of Non-Liability and providing documentation as to the nature of the dispute.

Failure to pay tolls can result in fines, fees and possible suspension of your license plate and/or your driver's license.

The program eliminated penalties for missed tolls and decreased hefty and controversial fines for unpaid tolls. Instead, drivers are to pay the missed toll amount and $3 per violation.

Here's the good news that deserves a victory dance (or at least a fist pump): As of July 1, 2020, unpaid tolls in Illinois NO LONGER result in a suspended driver's license. The Tollway allows for payment plans of up to 24 months to pay the entire amount. The Tollway uses your financial information, the amount you owe, and your proposed payment amount to determine the length of payment plan.

It is a limited-time opportunity for a specified group of taxpayers to pay a defined amount, in exchange for forgiveness of a tax liability (including interest, penalties, and criminal prosecution) relating to previous tax periods.
