Anybody having DNS problems in NJ?

Over the last several days I have noticed a lot of DNS errors. Is anybody else experiencing this?

Thanks

Ken

Happens everywhere. Anybody having DNS problems in NJ? - Astound (5)

It's best to use something like NYC or Boston's Speakeasy DNS or something. Usually 18 ms ping to that from PA so it isn't too bad.

Re: Anybody having DNS problems in NJ?

How do I do that? Do I just put in the IP of DNS? If so what is the IP?

Thanks

»Specify DNS server allowed?

You can use 216.254.95.2 and 66.92.64.2

Is that what's going on... I tell you...

I'd be sitting here playing an online game or checking my mail and after I would logout IE 5.5 wouldn't bring up any sites. As a matter of fact it has been doing that on a regualar basis for about 3 days now. It was driving me nuts, cause I'd reboot and then be back online... So I use use a NYC or PA DNS. Should I just add those to the list, or remove the old DNS servers before adding them.

Was the DNS set static or not prior to you wanting to change them now? If it was, and those were causing you problems then delete those and add those ones in I said. If your DNS was not set static then follow the advice in the thread I posted to do so.

I removed the old 207.172.3.x DNS IPs and replaced them with new NYC speakeasy ones from this site:

»www.speakeasy.net/main.p ··· page=nyc

so far so good...

Quick question, I changed those DNS addresses under the properies for my NIC card, but I have a router, and it still shows the old addresses. Which take presidence? I'm not quite sure how to change these values in the router configuration (should I be able to?).

P.S. I have a Linksys router.

Go into command prompt and type in ipconfig/all and see what ones it is using. Or if you're on Windows 95/98/ME go to start, run, and type in winipcfg, press enter. Find the adapter and then click more info or something like that. You can click the button at the top where it says DNS servers to see what ones are being used.

You could always look in the networking forum (or your router's forum) or look in the options of your router and see if you see the DNS addresses and change them.

I'd think Windows' DNS settings would be over the router ones but I'm not totally sure. Best to check your router's forum or networking.

I setup my own dns server on my linux box, so I wouldn't have to deal with rcn's problems.

Why not just use the NYC or Boston Speakeasy's DNS or something like that? Works fine, saves bandwidth and doesn't break the ToS. Anybody having DNS problems in NJ? - Astound (14)

I configured my broadband router for the DNS that you gave - works great!

Thanks much,
