Count Dooku a.k.a Darth Tyranus (from the word "tyrant") was a powerful Sith lord apprenticed to Darth Sidious. He was originally the Jedi apprentice of Master Yoda but was, in his later years drawn to the power of the dark side. He was also the master of Qui-Gon Jinn.
Although, he was first tempted by the Dark side as a Padawan, when his best friend (Lorian Nod) became a Sith Lord, Dooku rose to be a mighty Jedi Master. In later years, he even lead the Jedi against the Mandalorians; the war against Boba Fett, where half the universe's Jedi were killed. However, shortly after this battle, the weary Dooku lost faith in the slowly corrupting Galactic Senate and the Jedi for serving it. He was greatly angered by the unwillingness of the Jedi Council to aid oppressed worlds and systems. The death of his apprentice and friend, Qui-Gon Jinn was the final blow to his already waning faith.
It is at that time he became apprenticed to Darth Sidious. His true dark nature began to emerge as he became colder and crueler; often viewing others as mere objects to further his ends. He further expressed extreme hatred for non-humans, seeking to place man above all, as the supreme, universal Authority. He then became the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the separatist group that was rebelling against the Galactic empire. He was behind several intrigues, especially involving the erasure of logs in the Jedi archives. He was most renowned, however, for his involvement in the Clone Wars.
During the war, Count Dooku, trained several non-Sith apprentices eg: General Grievous, Asajj Ventress and also tempted, imprisoned and sentenced Obi-Wan-Kenobi to death but was thwarted. He battled quite a number of Jedi too, most notably, Yoda (to a draw) and even cut off the right forearm off of Anakin Skywalker during the early days of the Clone Wars. He also procured and passed on the first designs of the Death Star to Darth Sidious. Close to the end of the Clone Wars, he and General Grievous "captured" Palpatine, recently elected Chancellor, to deceive the corrupt Senate into believing Palpatine had been kidnapped, thus creating the necessary sympathy to hand over even more emergency powers to the him.
However, Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi came to rescue the Chancellor/Sith lord. Count Dooku was secretly ordered to dispose of Obi-Wan but to spare and surrender to Anakin. This he did (although Kenobi survived). In the fight against Anakin, however, he found himself battling for his life and eventually Anakin Skywalker cut off both Dooku's hands.
Darth Sidious had promised to intervene if Skywalker defeated him. Count Dooku was betrayed by Sidious however. The words "Do it" came from the Chancellor in the voice of Darth Sidious and Dooku, in his last moments realized he was a simple stepping stone for Sidious' true intended apprentice: Anakin Skywalker. Then, weak and defenseless, Count Dooku was decapitated by Anakin's lightsabers.
Personality and traits
Dooku was widely known for his calm and strategic moods. He uses this to his advantage in battle when his opponents see his calm emotionless face it intimidates them and make them fight sloppier.
When Dooku became sith he was very loyal to his master Darth Sidious, Unlike his trainees General Grievous and Asajj Ventress who frequently disobey and put their own gain in front of their master, Dooku obeyed every order Sidious told him without question and eventually led to his death.
Powers and Abilities
Count Dooku was one of the greatest Jedi/Sith in the Galaxy. Although he was a bit of a demagogue and delved deeply in philosophy, he was extremely knowledgeable in the ways of the force, frequently using it in battle. As a Sith, he possesed a red lightsaber with a curved handle. With it, he was a deadly duelist. In fact, he was one of the few force-users known for using the second lightsaber form, Makashi, as it was obsolete by his time, or at least was considered so. He was thought of as a match for Yoda and was one of only two (the other was Yoda) beings capable of defeating Mace Windu in combat.

Count Dooku was played by British actor Christopher Lee in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
After learning that Palpatine was secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, Dooku turned to the dark side and became a Dark Lord of the Sith himself, replacing Darth Maul as Sidious's second apprentice. His new master bestowed upon him the Sith title of Darth Tyranus.
Personality. Dooku is high stoic, calm, relaxed, confident, and cunning. Dooku is amoral and highly apathetic, but not incapable of emotional experiences. He was visibly shocked when Jango Fett was killed in the Geonosian Arena by Mace Windu.
he holds contempt for both Anakin and Obi-Wan, he hates Yoda, he kills his brother and has his sister assassinated, his endgame is a galaxy where humans run everything and aliens are second-class citizens (which is what the Empire is, only without him at the head of it).
While serving Darth Sidious, Dooku is a ruthless terrorist and warlord, whose methods included torture, murder, and even genocide. However, before turning to the dark side, he was a respected Jedi Master, having been trained by Yoda and served as the Master of Qui-Gon Jinn.
While Dooku was certainly evil -- and even had a Darth sobriquet, Tyranus, that he rarely used -- he was never quite a Sith, at least not in the true sense. Unlike those who espoused the Sith doctrine, Dooku wasn't motivated by hatred or fear but by the same purpose that drove him as a Jedi.
Count Dooku's disregard for life, even when he was a Jedi, was such that he was a borderline sociopath. One of the most notable examples of a psychopath was Palpatine who, in reality, was the Sith Lord Darth Sidious.
Another contender for the weakest Sith could be Count Dooku, or has he's also known Darth Tyranus. Dooku was a cunning and talented Sith Lord, known for his swift skills with a lightsaber and his ability to manipulate populations.
Both Vader and Dooku do commit a similar amount of crimes, with Dooku helping orchestrate the Clone Wars, resulting in the deaths of billions of beings in the galaxy, working with the Zygerrians, Wat Tambor, and Riff Tamson, whereas Vader slaughtered the majority of the Jedi including the younglings and aided Sidious ...
Because Dooku is his original family name (i.e. not his Sith name) and he was of noble blood (a Count from whatever his home planet was). His Sith name, granted by Darth Sidious, was Darth Tyrannus, but it was a *secret* — just as Darth Sidious himself was known to the galaxy as Sheev Palpatine.
Studying Jedi Archive records, Dooku based his new weapon design after the curved hilts that were standard during the heyday of Form II lightsaber combat. The curve allowed the hilt to fit better into his hand, allowing for superior finesse and precise blade control.
Overall, Dooku was far more equipped to become a Sith Master than Maul was. Had he managed to overthrow Palpatine, Dooku would have been able to use his position, combat abilities, and dark side Force powers to take his place on the throne Palpatine had carved.
Binks pretends to accept this apology, feigning innocence, but after he hangs up he reveals that he was in fact a Sith Lord, named Darth Jar Jar, who only pretended to be manipulated by Palpatine and actually manipulated Palpatine himself.
Dooku voluntarily left the light side behind and became Darth Sidious' dark side disciple, taking the secret name Darth Tyranus and leading the Separatist army. Dooku advanced Sidious's secret plot to take over the galaxy, but forgot that betrayal is the nature of the Sith.
Indeed he did. Dooku (aka Darth Tyrannus) knew his master's identity. At this point the Jedi thought Dooku was the Sith Master. The kidnapping was planned to reinforce public support for Palpatine while further confusing the Jedi about his true identity.
Despite his shriveled and diminutive appearance, Yoda's unparalleled prowess made him a qualified leader of the Jedi Council. He was able to defeat Dooku and completely humiliate Ventress in front of the clones - a character who made Kenobi struggle during their own skirmishes.
