PREPARE MUSHROOMS

WASH MUSHROOMS:

HOW TO WASH MUSHROOMS WHY NOT WASH MUSHROOMS?

In order to remove dirt, sand and other impurities from mushrooms, it is imperative to wash them before preparation. The reason for the misconception that mushrooms should not be washed lies in the structure of the mushrooms: Due to their sponge-like texture, mushrooms can absorb a lot of water and therefore become very mushy. To avoid this, you should only briefly rinse the fungus under running water and then pat and dry thoroughly. You can also use a mushroom brush to remove dirt and grime. You should be careful not to brush the mushrooms too hard, otherwise the surface will be damaged. After the mushrooms have dried, you can slice them or break them into larger pieces and use them in the desired dish.

CLEANING AND CUTTING MUSHROOMS:

HOW TO CLEAN MUSHROOMS OR HOW DO YOU CLEAN MUSHROOMS CORRECTLY AND HOW DO YOU CUT MUSHROOMS?

To prepare mushrooms for use in dishes, they must be cleaned and cut . Here we will show you how to clean and cut mushrooms correctly :

  • REMOVE STEMS AND DAMAGED PARTS: On some types of mushrooms, such as button mushrooms, the stems can be hard and woody. You can simply break off the stems or cut them off with a knife. If you discover damaged parts of the mushrooms, you should remove them generously with the knife.
  • CUT MUSHROOMS: Cut the mushrooms into your desired size or shape. You should pay attention to the texture of the mushrooms: if they are very soft, they may break or be crushed when cutting. In this case, it is best to cut them into larger pieces.

PEELING MUSHROOMS:

Depending on the type of mushroom, it may be beneficial to peel them. For example, you should cut off the outer, hard layer of the shiitake mushroom with a knife and only use the soft inside of the mushroom for your dish. However, since most types of edible mushrooms have a very thin skin that becomes soft when cooked, they do not need to be peeled, just cleaned and prepared according to the recipe.

PREPARE MUSHROOMS PROPERLY

BLANCHING MUSHROOMS:

Blanching mushrooms improves the flavor of mushrooms and softens them. It can also help kill bacteria on the surface of the mushrooms and extend their shelf life. Here are instructions for blanching mushrooms:

Ingredients: Fresh mushrooms (e.g. mushrooms, king oyster mushrooms, oyster mushrooms), water, ice water

Directions:

  1. Clean the mushrooms and cut them into the desired size and shape.
  2. Bring a large pot of water to the boil.
  3. Add the mushrooms to the boiling water and blanch for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Remove the blanched mushrooms from the boiling water and immediately place them in ice water to stop the cooking process.
  5. Allow the mushrooms to cool in the ice water for a few minutes, then remove from the water and drain on a clean kitchen towel or gently pat dry with a paper towel.
  6. The blanched mushrooms can now be used as desired.

HOW TO USE: Blanched mushrooms are a great ingredient in salads, soups, stews and sauces and can also be added to stir-fries and omelettes.

COOKING MUSHROOMS AND FRYING MUSHROOMS:

Mushrooms can be fried in a pan or on a grill . Here you will find instructions on how to fry or cook your mushrooms :

  5. Fry the mushrooms for another 5-10 minutes until they have turned golden and are cooked through. As soon as the mushrooms are finished frying, you can remove them from the pan and serve.

The exact roasting time depends on the size of the mushrooms and the type of pan. However, frying mushrooms usually only takes a few minutes. They should be tender and cooked through, but not too soft or mushy.

Be careful not to fry the mushrooms in large quantities as this can release too much moisture and the mushrooms will end up steamed rather than fried.

HOW TO USE: Fried mushrooms make a great side dish or can be used as a topping on pizza and sandwiches.

GRILLING MUSHROOMS AND MARINATING MUSHROOMS:

Mushrooms can also be prepared on the grill and this gives them a special flavor. Here are instructions to help you prepare mushrooms on the grill :

USE: Mushrooms on the grill can be served as a side dish or as a main dish. They can also be used on a burger or sandwich or added to a salad.

BAKED MUSHROOMS:

Mushrooms can also be baked by seasoning them with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and then baking them in the oven over medium heat. As a rule, mushrooms should be baked in the oven at a temperature of 200 degrees for about 15-20 minutes until soft and golden brown. It is important to be careful not to bake the mushrooms for too long or they will dry out and become tough. It's also important to turn the mushrooms during baking to ensure they bake evenly.
